The Bija Children’s Choir is Sebastopol’s own world folk chorus for ages 7-14 who love to sing, serving over 800 local youth since 2007. Through fun, Dalcroze Rhythmics-inspired weekly choral classes and vibrant multicultural performances, students develop music literacy and performance skills, becoming young ambassadors of harmony for the community and the world beyond.
Preparatory Choir | Ages 7 - 12
The Bija Preparatory Choir is a beginning level choir class that focuses on creating a beautiful unison sound and developing basic rhythmic abilities, music literacy skills, and performance composure. Through singing multicultural repertoire and learning music literacy through the movement-based approach of Dalcroze Eurhythmics, students learn the basics of choir singing in an enjoyable way, and perform for their families at the end of a session, or as past of an all-choir event.
Concert Choir | Ages 8 -14
The Bija Concert Choir is an intermediate level chorus, focusing on developing technique, literacy, and vitality in ensemble performance. Students work towards a free-flowing vocal sound in two and three-part songs, sometimes including dance. Music literacy activities begin with moving and listening, and then become conceptualized as students apply new skills to multicultural repertoire. Concert Choir students perform at least three times a year, including the annual Bija Cultural Story Concerts each spring. By audition or invitation only.
