2012 Summer Camp with Miss Moon

Organic gardening, expressive arts, swimming at Ives Pool, cooking, crafts, games, outdoor play, field trips, community building, and special guest instructors. Great location, right in Sebastopol, at the Garzot/Duffield Building, next to the Pond and the Super Playground in Libby Park. This camp is perfect for all types of kids, and will engage them daily in a variety of fun activities.
Our Sun Camp director - Celosia Arcadia ("Miss Moon") - was most recently the director of Earth Camp, and brings to Sun Camp her unique appreciation of the benefits of hands-on, outdoor-oriented, experiential, community-focused activities for kids. This will be a special camp that will offer all the fun every parent wants kids to have at summer camp, with a warmhearted West County spirit.

Ancient Kung Fu for Kids
Ages: 4 - 9

Apple Tree Morris
Morris is a festive seasonal dance that dates back hundreds of years to the farming communities of the Cotswold Hills in Southern England. It's boistrous, athletic and colorful, a perfect way to celebrate teh change of seasons. You don't need experience, just enthusiasm. Art with the Masters
Ages: 4-9
Love creating art and are always exploring new ways to express yourself? Come join Mrs. Therese, with Art & Soul Music Studios, and learn how to deepen your art skills through emulation artworks of inspirational artists both renown (such as Frida Kahlo) and local contemporaries (such as Peter Crompton). Each month Mrs. Therese will explore an artist through various media (clay, painting, pastels, sculpture, mixed media, etc.) to facilitate each student’s process in developing their own, unique artwork in that Master Artist’s likeness.

Basic Photoshop
Maximizing your digital tools.
Learn the essential features of Photoshop and its utility bridge in how they satisfy the basic requirements of a photographer. This 2 day intensive workshop demonstrates the fundamentals of file management and basic retouching. Learn the digital workflow process with step-by-step instruction in organizing files, embedding metadata, editing, and more. The first day is dedicated to learning the techniques, the second to practice. Students must each bring their own laptop images to work with, and have basic computer skills.

Bird Watching - Breeding Birds
Explore different areas of Sonoma County while learning about the local bird life. Summer is the season when our local resident birds have set up nests and the young fledglings are out. Wednesday evening’s class introduction (June 20, 2012) will be a slide presentation of resident birds, their songs and habitat. Then, Sunday mornings we meet at the Community Center, travel together to a new location where we will be sure to find exciting birds! Daoist Meditation
Shifu Michael’s approach to meditation incorporates the Daoist/Buddhist practice of zuowang, or “sitting in forgetfulness or oblivion”. This meditation class will be structured around brief Qigong warm-up exercises and a brief period of circle walking between two 20 minute sittings. Class is recommended for beginners through advanced meditators. If you have a meditation cushion please bring it. Chairs are available.

Fencing Camp 2012
Live the adventure! En Garde Fencing and the SCCC bring the ancient art of dueling to the modern world. Meant for the beginning fencer, this fun and unique camp offers one week of incredible fencing matches, cross-training, and fun that will give kids a solid foundation in the Olympic sport of fencing. Skateboard Camp - Summer 2012
Sebastopol Skate Camp offers an in-depth skateboarding workshop for all skill levels. Beginners will start with the basics, like ollies & dropping in. More advanced skaters will learn 360 flips, combo tricks, and more. This fun and challenging camp will encourage agility, confidence & promote safety under the direction of local pro skater, Tony Manfre. Students must provide their own skateboard, pads & helmet. Storytime
The Sebastopol Community Cultural Center has enjoyed hosting the Library’s Storytime for Toddlers & Preschoolers this past Spring. With the remodeling complete, these wonderful classes will now resume in the newly remodeled Sebastopol Library! Those with babies will be happy to learn that the popular Baby Time has been added back in! These classes include stories, songs, and fun with a caregiver. Tennis Camp 2012
Fun Tennis Camps run by Rick Passero, current tennis director and teaching pro for all USTA programs at Analy High, and both boys and girls head coach. Learn volleys, ground strokes, and serves in a series of fun energizing drills the first two weeks, and the third week come ready to work hard learning the finer points of the game in the advanced division.
