Independent Contractor vs Renter:
Independent Contractor: SCCC is responsible for all class registration and insurance coverage. The instructor will generally receive a percentage of student registration fees and is required to submit a W-9 form. A room reservation fee and key deposit, both refundable, are also required. After a 3-month trial period, SCCC generally imposes “minimums” for any class, in order to ensure that the amount allocated to SCCC for the class is at least the rental rate for the space used by the class.
Renter: Rental instructors are responsible for all class registration and class fees. Rent is due at the beginning of each month. Renters pay for the full month even if they elect not to hold class on one or more days that month. Rental fees depend on which room and time of day/evening. Instructors must provide insurance documentation or pay a yearly fee to SCCC along with a signed liability release form by each student/participant. A room reservation fee and key deposit, both refundable, are also required.
See Class Proposal Packet for details, rates & fees.
