No one will argue that New York and Los Angeles are the greatest musical cities in North America. But when it comes to homegrown soul, Austin has those two metropolises beat — not just because of its countrified slant, but also because of its deep family heritage. And no one personifies that better than 34-year-old singer, songwriter and fiddle player extraordinaire Carrie Rodriguez.
Carrie, the daughter of acclaimed Mexican-American musician David Rodriguez, didn’t just stumble into rock ‘n’ roll stardom, either. She first studied classical violin technique at Oberlin Conservatory before devoting herself to the fiddle at Berklee College of Music. A budding friendship with singer/songwriter Chip Taylor of “Wild Thing” fame led to several collaborative albums, along with a few solo records full of Americana-tinged brilliance.
Carrie Rodriguez’s latest effort, Give Me All You Got, is slated for release in January. Chock-full of autobiographical tunes that are equal parts divine and devastating, Rodriguez spends the album gently careening between a desert swing and an urban strut, so it’s no surprise that Give Me All You Got easily represents the strongest work of her career.
KEITH GREENINGER paints intricate portraits of the human condition with powerful melodic images, deep engaging guitar rhythms and warm heart wrenching vocals. He is a multi award winning singer songwriter and this year’s winner of the prestigious Telluride Troubadour National Song Writing Competition. With nothing more than a guitar in hand and a song with a story to tell, Keith can completely captivate an audience. His husky heart-felt vocals and aggressive acoustic guitar style offer more than the standard bill-of-fare for most folk singers and more musicality and sensitivity than today's average rock band. Keith Greeninger is that rare performer for whom people lean forward in their seats, eager to capture every note and every word.
