Instructor Jill Minye

Jill Edwards Minyé has been practicing and teaching Yoga since 1987. Her love of Yoga began while studying intensively with her first teacher, Evlaleah Howard, from the Iyengar tradition. She soon developed a desire to find understanding and help with her seemingly out of control negative thoughts and painful emotions. This led her to Kripalu Center and the exploration of the pyscho-spiritual teachings of the practice. She also began attending meditations at Spirit Rock, studying Buddhist teachings and Vipassana meditation, and began weaving the Vipassana practice inside the asana practice. In 1990, Jill became a certified Kripalu Yoga teacher, and the following year, completed Michael Lee’s Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy. From 1992 -1997, Jill was teacher to the staff of Yoga Journal and taught in a variety of other venues in the Bay Area. In 1997, Jill married and moved north to Sebastopol, California, founded and directed The Open Hand Studio for Yoga and the Arts. From 1998 - 2003, as a way of learning more about energy awareness, Jill immersed herself in the practice of Chen Tai Chi with Grandmaster Li Shu Dong. This was a major turning point in her life, as she learned something indescribable and invaluable, which she now incorporates into her Yoga practice and classes. Her current passion is Marshall Rosenberg’s work, Non-Violent Communication, which she weaves through her classes. Jill thrives on exploring teachings and practices she is drawn to and ring true, digesting them, and seamlessly weaving them through her practice and classes.
