Board Member Don Fangmeyer passed away recently

Sadly, Board member Don Fangmeyer passed away recently. It was sudden and unexpected. We miss him greatly, and ask you to join us in extending our deepest sympathies to his widow Gabrielle Disario.

Donald (DG) Graves Fangmeyer
Donald (DG) Graves Fangmeyer, 60, of Sebastopol, CA, died suddenly on October 1, 2012 in Millbrae, CA.
Don was born on October 29, 1951 in Baltimore, MD to Donald and Elizabeth Fangmeyer. He grew up in Belfast, ME, attending High Mowing School in Wilton, NH and graduating from Belfast Area High School in 1968. Four years later, he graduated from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH with a BA in Visual Studies. After living in the NH Seacoast region for many years, he moved to Sausalito,
CA in 2004 and then to his current home in the beautiful West County area of Sonoma County, near Sebastopol, CA.

Don’s professional life as an independent creative consultant, communications strategist and writer provided an outlet for his unique creativity, his wonderful way with words and his ability to define and articulate complex ideas. Early in his career he worked for several Boston multimedia and advertising companies, including Intermedia and Humphrey Browning MacDougall. In 1980 he formed
his consulting company, Fangmeyer and Company, which has since provided creative and strategic services to many major financial and professional services companies. He also served for four years as Director of Creative Strategy on a consulting basis at Wechsler Ross & Partners in Manhattan.

His personal creative time was spent on photography, painting and recently, playing the clarinet. He loved and collected books, enjoyed fly fishing and visiting art museums. Many of his happiest times were spent making his friends laugh and feel cared for while sharing wonderful food and excellent wine with him. Those inviting Don for dinner always looked forward to him arriving with his martini kit and quirky sense of humor.

Generous with his time, Don served as the Board Chair of South Church in Portsmouth, NH, he had recently became a member of the Board of the Sebastopol Community and Cultural Center and he could always be counted on to help out at Sebastopol Sunrise Rotary events, of which his wife is a member.

Don is survived by his wife of 9 years, Gabrielle Disario and his two children, Max Fangmeyer of Providence, RI and New Delhi, India and Elizabeth Fangmeyer of Somerville, MA; son and daughter of Margaret Marty of Providence, RI and by his step-son, Evan Bangham of San Francisco. Also, by his brother Ray and his wife Maureen of Wilton, NH and his sister Beth of Alton Bay, NH and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made either to Stone Creek Zen Center, PO Box 56, Sebastopol, CA 95473 or to High Mowing School, Development & Alumni Relations, 222 Isaac Frye Highway, Wilton, NH 03086 as these two institutions played a very special role in Don’s life.

A memorial service and celebration of Don’s life will be held on October 19th at 3PM at the Pleasant Hill Memorial Park, 1700 Pleasant Hill Road in Sebastopol, CA followed by a reception. A second service will be held in Portsmouth, NH before the end of October. More information to folllow.
