Instructor Tiffany von Emmel, PhD
Tiffany von Emmel’s mission is to develop inclusive leadership capabilities that enable an interdependent world to thrive. As a leadership educator, executive coach and scholar-practitioner, her focus has been in somatic and improvisation methods that develop the use of self, interpersonal dynamics, facilitating diversity dynamics, and resilience. For twenty years, Tiffany has taught transformative leadership learning programs in Africa, U.S and Europe. Since 2005, at Stanford University Graduate School of Business, she teaches diversity programs, mentors group facilitators, and has coached hundreds of MBA students as a senior facilitator for Interpersonal Dynamics, the most popular leadership course. A former faculty at Sonoma State University, M.A. Program in Organization Development, she taught Interpersonal Dynamics in OD and Advanced Facilitation Skills.
As a social entrepreneur, Tiffany founded and led two network organizations that enabled thousands of people from diverse cultures and socio-econoic backgrounds to collaboratively learn and develop. In 2006, she founded Dreamfish. With a retreat center in Nairobi and founded in San Francisco, Dramfish was the first global cooperative and an early influencer in the movement towards a “sharing economy”.
The Art of Self leadership lab is influenced by her research of physical theater improvisation as a transformative practice and past experience as a leader, practicing Shiatsu therapy, being a Buddhist practitioner for thirty years, and being a performing artist in over a 1,000 performances of musical theater.
Tiffany holds a PhD in Human and Organizational Systems, and a MA in Organization Development from Fielding Graduate University. In participatory arts and improvisation, she trained at Tamalpa Institute and with Sandy Meisner, Anna Halprin, and Ruth Zaporah.
