Spotlight on:

Sebastopol Kiwanis Club's Auction for Education

A highlight of the summer for Sebastopolians has always been the Sebastopol Kiwanis Club's 3rd of July Fireworks. This year, in lieu of the Fireworks, the Club is hosting a virtual, online Auction for Education to benefit community schools. Their focus on supporting educators couldn't come at a better time: between a projected $18 billion statewide deficit, county schools' loss of sales tax revenue, and teachers and administrators adapting to new challenges, Sebastopol schools are depending on our enthusiasm and support!

Kiwanis anticipates the auction will be up and running by June 26th, and bidding will be open until the 3rd of July. Winners of all bids will be notified on July 3rd. Further details will be made available at the Sebastopol Kiwanis Club website.

Other community offerings:

Sebastopol Center for the Arts hosts a series of interactive virtual lectures, starting with a presentation on California impressionism, and their Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival will soon be streaming their winning mini, short, and feature films.

The Sebastopol Area Senior Center is hosting classes in yoga and balance, support groups, workshops, and field trips via Zoom (they're very popular—over 500 signups!).

Hallberg Butterfly Gardens is now open to the public for self-guided tours by appointment (their virtual tour video is available 24/7). Plant sales will also be available by appointment, please inquire by email

Sebastopol Area Time Bank continues to meet community need by facilitating the exchange of services among Sebastopol-area residents.

Ceres Community Project has been met with unprecedented demand for their services and has more than doubled their meal delivery output. See their website to find out if you're eligible for their services, and for more details on how to support their operations.

Organizers of the Gravenstein Apple Fair are working on ways to bring our famous local apples to you to purchase and enjoy. You can find the latest updates on this year's modified celebration of apples and farmers at their website.

Creative Sonoma has a number of ongoing virtual arts events, including a teen art show and a poetry symposium
